I have seen that Unltima Ratio Regium has been mentioned but i would not count it as a game right now at all since it is not really playable and figures morel ike a tech demo. But if you want a game with managment hell like in Fortresss mode then take a look at Aurora the DF of spaaaace, very complex game with aim to shoot for the stars and forge your own space empire (also its micro hell because you have to do EVERYTHING by yourslef) Also i would not recomend any straight DF Fortress mode clones like Gnomoria, or A Game of Dwarves, they are just way oversimplified compared to DF and overall worse (at least in my opinion). So if you want a game that is more like adventure mode then look up into rouglikes like: Caves of Qud - survive in far past apocalypse world ToME 4 Dungeon Crawl and also mentioned before Cataclysm DDA (strongly recomend this pot finding awsomness) and UnReal World (lacks dragons and cool stuff but is good nonetheless).

Therefore there are no real alternatives to the DF. Well if you want a game that is similar to the DF you can put in that bag every rouglike there is out there, but i think thats quite off from the point since i think that the very heart of DF is in its unique to merge that rouglike element with managment game and I have not seen any other game do that at such complicated level. the centrelized stockpile makes it even slower, and it gets tedious(not boring) fast Banished - great farming and economy game, but very flat and limited by the content SEVERLY Clockwork Empires - no alpha available Cataclysm - DF adventure mode on steroids on a positive note, I present to you: FACTORIO it is a production chain/automated factory building game you can literaly try to automate evrything so it asembles killer cyborgs for you fun timewaster game sorry for no good images, its one of those you have to play it to understand games thats saying something) Craft This World - i did not even beat first world level before i gave up, its intresting, and fun, but its also very slow.

terible game (the UI is worse then DF, hell it has worse UI then some early DOS games. but lack of content lowers actualy playability to a few hours max Unclaimed world - downright painfull to play, you have literaly no idea what is going on most of the time, and the dwarfs move around randomly. What can i say about those games RimWorld - the alpha is great, verry smooth, and fun to play.
